Why West Coast should target Nathan Fyfe as Harley Reid mentor in 2026

West Australian commentator Tim Gossage has urged the Eagles to target Nat Fyfe as a mentor for Harley Reid.
The former No.1 draft pick is the focal point of all things footy in WA right now and Gossage believes Fyfe, even at 34, would be perfect for Reid even for just 12 months.
However, Gossage does concede that it may come too late, with the teenager linked to a move out of West Coast at the end of the season.
“Nat Fyfe (should come to) West Coast. For one year. Just one year,” Gossage told SEN WA Breakfast.
“And it’s going to be too late because he’s going to be gone at the end of the year Harley Reid, but that’s the type of player, if Nat Fyfe was available. He played 15 games (last year) at Fremantle, but if you had him at your club and he was on your list and he might play five games, but he trains, he’s there, you’d walk taller.
“If West Coast went after Nat Fyfe and said, ‘hey mate, you’re done, you’re not going to get a game at Fremantle next year, we would appreciate a player like you at our football club’, there’s no more professional player at Fremantle and never has been.
“I know people are going to say I’ve gone crazy – that’s the type of player I’m talking about. Luke Hodge went to Brisbane.”
Former Coleman Medallist Scott Cummings doesn’t believe Fyfe is the type of personality that would connect with Reid.
“I don’t know if Fyfe is the person (to mentor Reid). He’s got a bit of spunk about him, he’s got a bit of attitude, he’s got a bit of larrikin about him – I don’t think Nat Fyfe has got any of those things,” Cummings said.
Reid struggled in his first game of 2025, finding just 12 disposals in the side’s 87-point loss to Gold Coast.
