Trade talk: Hawthorn to continue “having a crack” at star midfielder
Hawthorn is intent on luring at least one gun midfielder to the club this trade period.
Channel 9 journalist and SEN regular Tom Morris believes the Hawks are “all in” on recruiting West Coast’s Harley Reid or Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters.
The Hawks have thrown their hat in the ring for Reid who has another year to run on his Eagles deal. And they will not die wondering in their pursuit of Port star Butters who is also contracted for 2026.
The Power have reportedly told the Hawks “no” so far, but the brown and gold will continue having a crack, especially if St Kilda jet Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera does opt to leave for Port.
“Hawthorn is all in on both, we know about Harley Reid,” Morris said on Footy Classified.
“The answer back on Zak Butters so far is no, he’s staying at Port Adelaide for next year as a free agent at the end of next year.
“It’s not stopping the Hawks from having a crack. They’re going to keep having a go in the understanding that if Wanganeen-Milera gets to Port that maybe they might be half a chance for Butters to go.
“That’s one to keep an eye on in this trade period.”
As it stands, Wanganeen-Milera is yet to make a decision on his future with the Adelaide Crows also keen.
As mentioned above, both Reid and Butters have contracts at their current clubs for next season.
