“They are not good”: King and Cornes go head-to-head over St Kilda
St Kilda have progressed to three wins from four following a gritty away victory against Port Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.
With a young core showing signs of elite talent behind a top set up courtesy of Ross Lyon, the Saints may have enough to make a push in 2025.
While St Kilda’s gutsy win over the Power was enough to convince David King of St Kilda's strength, his co-host Kane Cornes remains extremely sceptical on what the Saints can achieve their season.
The two experts went head-to-head on SEN’s Fireball, with Cornes holding firm on his belief that the Saints still have a long way to go before considering finals football.

Cornes: “They are not good.
“The Saints are not good.”
King: “Have some vision. We had this discussion about the Suns two years ago. I want you to look at the Saints in the same way.
(Hugo) Garcia is going to be a player. Did you see some of the things (Lance) Collard did?”
Cornes: “Every team has got good young players.”
King: “You’ve got to recognise them coming out of the ashes.”
Kane: “They are not in the ashes they played finals two years ago.”
King: “You’ve been saying they are bottom four. That’s ashes.”
Cornes: “Yeah, I have been, and I’m holding on it.
“I don’t know if they’re bottom four…”
King: “Well, you’re saying they are bottom four, of you say they are holding on bottom four…”
Cornes: “I think they win between eight and 10 games, bottom four was eight wins last year so I’m holding on it.”
King: “There is no way they are bottom four.”
Cornes: “So where are they? I’ve called it, now you call it!”
King: “I think you’ve got to recognise some of these kids.
(Max) Hall showed some really good sign, (Tobie) Travaglia did some promising things, five score involvements, I thought he was terrific.
“They’ve got the senior core players sharing the load in (Jack) Macrae and (Jack) Sinclair, but (Nasiah) Wanganeen-Milera is going to be a top liner in this competition, and (Darcy) Wilson, I’m amazed by some of the things he does.
“They are going to come forward quicker than you give them credit for.”
Cornes: “To call it this year though, you think they are a genuine finals contender now?
“They haven’t beaten a whole lot.”
King: “100 per cent.
“I think that ross is doing a terrific job.”
Cornes: “I’m holding on the fact that they are not genuine contenders this year, whether its bottom six, bottom four (or) bottom eight.”
King: “I’m saying that we are seeing the build of a very good team.
“If they can land (Tom) De Koning, if they can land Leek Aleer, if they can land (Miles) Bergman, things can change really quickly.
“They could spike in a serious hurry.”
After an incredibly strong start, the Saints are set for their biggest challenge thus far, taking on the Giants at Norwood Oval during Sunday's Gather Round action.
