Tassie would love current senior coach to form “dream” team

The Tasmania Devils, in an ideal world, would love to form a “dream” team when it comes to the senior coach/football boss combination.
That is according to Channel 9 journalist and SEN regular Tom Morris who is reporting that Devils CEO Brendon Gale is keen on current Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley.
It is understood that Gale has Hinkley, who finishes with the Power at the end of this season, earmarked for the GM of football or footy boss role.
The news comes after Nathan Buckley exclusively confirmed on SEN on Monday that he had been in contact with Gale.
“I think the dream for Brendon Gale is Nathan Buckley as coach and Ken Hinkley as the footy boss,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.
“I think that’s his A-1 proposal. In an ideal world, that’s what he’d like.
“Whether Ken Hinkley wants to move down to Tasmania is another perspective that needs to be nutted out.
“Brendon Gale knows Ken Hinkley quite well, there’s been no formal discussions yet, but that will ramp up over the next few months.
“The key here is that there is no rush in the Tasmanian Devils’ eyes to appoint a GM of football.
“Ken Hinkley is the one they want. Whether he wants to go there is another question.”
Hinkley’s lack of experience in a football operations role was questioned.
But Morris says the precedent has been set with the likes of Leon Cameron (Sydney Swans) and Alan Richardson (Melbourne) moving from senior coaching jobs to footy boss roles in recent years.
“So there is a precedent to appoint long-time senior coaches to be footy bosses if they are the right person for the role,” Morris added.
The Devils have already put in place former Pies recruiter Derek Hine as Head of Recruiting and Todd Patterson as Head of List Management and Strategy as they continue to assemble the foundations for their impending expansion.
