Brisbane forward Lincoln McCartney has suffered another ACL injury, the club has confirmed.
The shocking news comes after the 31-year-old suffered the same injury in the same right knee in Round 8 of the 2024 season.
Tragically for McCarthy, he was pushing for an AFL return this weekend before suffering the blow at training.
According to the club, McCarthy was sent for scans after advising Lions medical staff of swelling and soreness after a training session last week.
Brisbane GM of Football Danny Daly was shattered for McCarthy who will now embark on a lengthy rehabilitation program.
“It’s incredibly disappointing and heartbreaking for Linc, his family and everyone at the Brisbane Lions to see him injure his ACL again,” Daly said via a statement.
“But we have all been so impressed with the way Linc dealt with his last ACL injury and how committed he was to return, so we have no doubt he will tackle this injury with the same attitude.
“In the meantime, everyone at the club will rally around Linc and support him through this process and he is a fan favourite as well so no doubt they will be sending their support for Linc.”
Brisbane begin their 2025 campaign with a Round 1 clash against Sydney at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.
