Kiwi NASCAR driver Shane van Gisbergen's best-ever oval track finish slipped through his fingers with a lap to go when Chase Briscoe and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. passed him at the finish line.
Van Gisbergen started from grid 10 at Nashville Superspeedway 400 race on Monday (NZ Time), and sat fifth with a lap to go, however finished seventh.
The 31-year-old's best oval finish is sixth, which he achieved at EchoPark Speedway in February.
But it was 45-year-old Denny Hamlin that won the race, followed by Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who came crashing together over the finish line.
Hamlin saluted former rival Kyle Busch who suddenly passed away in late May, with an the iconic Busch bow.
