“Mouthing off”: Cornes’ scathing take on North Melbourne skipper Simpkin
Kane Cornes has directed scathing words at North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin in the wake of the Kangaroos’ loss to Port Adelaide on the weekend.
A lot of the discussion from the fiery contest has centred around Jason Horne-Francis who was involved in many a heated exchange with his former Roos teammates.
But Cornes was more critical of Simpkin who was seen in the middle of a lot of the little melees.
Power 300-gamer Cornes heard that Simpkin was “extremely vocal” throughout the game and urged the North skipper to focus on winning games of football rather than getting involved in skirmishes.

“It’s not as if they’re having free rein and letting him (Horne-Francis) do whatever he wants, like the North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin,” Cornes said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.
“The way that he carried on on the weekend for a player that’s won 16 games in six years…
“I’m led to believe that he was extremely vocal and mouthing off to the likes that you wouldn’t see from a very, very poor football team.
“He was on the lip all day. This is a captain who can’t even play in his own midfield, playing half-forward.
“I’m just reporting what I’ve heard. He was extremely vocal.
“And just repeating, he’s won 16 games in six years and I’d just be shutting my mouth and trying to turn this footy club around before I start mouthing off and throwing my weight around.”
Simpkin had 19 disposals, a season low, in the hard-fought nine-point loss to the Power at the Adelaide Oval.
