Ahead of Adelaide’s Round 16 clash with Richmond, SEN’s David King has his eyes set on a star Crow performing slightly below par in recent weeks.
Although having a strong season, Izak Rankine hasn’t quite fired to his lofty standards, experiencing a drastic fall in his typically damaging ball use.
Following their Round 14 clash, Champion Data identified and discussed Rankine’s disposal efficiency drop, with the star falling from the fourth best ball user in the AFL in 2024 to 189th in 2025.
Kicking the ball at just 50.5 per cent this season - the lowest in his six-season career – the star Crow has undoubtedly failed to capitalise on Adelaide’s recent success.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s game against the Tigers, King has put Rankine in the gun, calling for a breakout performance against the struggling side.
“Izak is in the gun,” King told SEN Fireball.
“I think Izak is having a good, solid, average year, but he is not the Isak of 2024 right now.
“I’ve been tracking him closely, and I know that he’s been spending some more time forward, and the coaches have tried to look at seeing whether he can become more of a goal kicking option for them.
“I want a breakout game. I want him to stamp a game. He has had some solid games this year, he’s hit the scoreboard, he’s had a few two goal games. He hasn’t had one of those games where you go, ‘wow, how good is this guy’.
“I want to see speed; I want to see skill. I’ve seen him miss way too many shots at goal; his kicking has been poor this year. He’s better than what he has shown us. This point of the year, you’ve got to get yourself going. Izak, my friend, unfortunately you’re in the gun!
“If Adelaide are to go anywhere, he has to be the man.”
The contest at the MCG kicks off at 3:15pm AEST this Sunday afternoon.
