Garry Lyon’s 2025 Brownlow Medal smokey
SEN • July 22nd, 2025 12:54 pm

Garry Lyon has picked Tom Green as his Brownlow smokey as the home and away season enters the final stretch.
Currently on Sportsbet after Round 19, Green is the equal-sixth favourite at $21 alongside Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell.
Green finished sixth in last year’s count on 27 votes, and his statistics in comparison this season are as good across the board, while he’s also averaging a league-leading 8.4 clearances, up from the 6.2 he picked up each game in 2024.
While Lyon is happy with his pre-season pick of Nick Daicos, who is currently the favourite at $2.25, he thinks that Green offers some great value at his current odds.
He discussed his picks with Tim Watson on SEN Breakfast.
Watson: “Have you got a smokey for the Brownlow?”
Lyon: “I’ve got Tom Green in my sights.”
Watson: “Lean, clean, Tom Green.”
Lyon: “I've had a look at who the favourite is, and I backed Nick Daicos at the start of the year because you just do, and he's now $2.25.
“But I was trying to find some value, and down the track I go and there he is, lean, clean Tom Green at $26.”
Watson: “How did he go last year? He was a vote-getter last year, wasn't he?”
Lyon: “He was top 6.
“The market now has got Daicos (favourite) ahead of Jordan Dawson, (Noah) Anderson, Bailey Smith, Caleb Serong, Matt Rowell and Tom Green.
“Zak Butters is also at $41.”
