Manchester United have bounced back from their derby thumping to Manchester City with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea overnight.
The Blues were dealt a major blow early in the contest, with their first choice goal keeper Robert Sanchez being sent off after five minutes for a foul he committed just outside the box.
It would then make matters worse when United’s captain Bruno Fernandes popped up in the 14th minute to give the home side the lead. Star midfielder Cole Palmer would then need to be substituted off in the 21st minute with an injury, capping off a hellish opening 25 minutes for Chelsea.
Casemiro was able to find himself free at the front post for an easy header in the 37th minute, which would see United take a 2-0 lead into half time.
However, the task was going to be tougher for United in the second half, as Casemiro would go on to be booked for his second yellow card of the match only 12 minutes later to be sent off just on the stroke of half time.
Chelsea pushed hard in the second half to try and make a comeback, with Trevoh Chalobah eventually scoring Chelsea’s goal in the 80th minute to reduce the margin.
But it would prove to be too little too late for Enzo Maresca’s men, as they lost their first game of the season and see United get within one point of them on the table after their fifth matchday for the season.
Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest is still yet to gain three points in the Premier League since the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo after they succumbed to a 1-1 draw away from home to Burnley.
Forest managed to open up the scoring early in the contest, with Neco Williams scoring inside two minutes of the match from a thunderous strike.
That lead would only last 18 minutes however, as Burnley managed to push through an equaliser thanks to Jaidon Anthony.
Forest would walk away disappointed with only a point, after they managed to record 17 shots to 12 for the game, as well as having 63% possession for the match.
West Ham’s dismal start to the season has continued after losing 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace.
Jean-Philippe Mateta recorded his second goal of the season after opening up the scoring for the Eagles in the 37th minute.
Jared Bowen tried to keep the Hammers in the contest after he found an equaliser for them in the 49th minute.
But ultimately, Palace’s power was too much to handle for the remaining 40 minutes of the game, as Tyrick Mitchell was able to eventually find the winner in the 68th minute to guide Palace into the top four of the Premier League table after five matches.
Wolverhampton got off to a brilliant start against newly promoted Leeds United when they opened up the scoring in the 8th minute.
That lead would quickly change however, with Leeds firing home three unanswered goals to round out the first half and ultimately walk away 3-1 winners.
Tottenham and Brighton couldn’t be separated, with an unfortunate Jan Paul van Hecke own goal in 82nd minute denying Brighton the victory as both sides ended the match at 2-2.
Top of the table Liverpool continued their early season dominance with their fifth win of the season.
A 2-1 victory for the Reds over their cross town rivals Everton sees them hold top spot for another week and continue their perfect start to their title defence.
And despite conceding the first goal of the match inside the opening 20 minutes, Fulham have recorded their second win of the season after defeating Brentford at home 3-1.
Still to come, Bournemouth host Newcastle in what looms to be a juicy matchup – with top four implications set to arise out of that contest.
Sunderland host Aston Villa on Sunday night as well as the visitors still look to find a way to not only claim their first win of the season, but also their first goal.
And Arsenal host Manchester City in a blockbuster to round out the fifth matchday of the Premier League season, with a secure spot inside the top three of the Premier League table up for grabs with the winner of that result.
