Manchester United have beaten Chelsea 2-1 in a chaotic Premier League match at Old Trafford to ease pressure on coach Ruben Amorim.
After Liverpool had maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday and Ange Postecoglou had earned his first point as Nottingham Forest boss with a 1-1 draw at Burnley, United's victory proved the story of the day.
Both United and world club champions Chelsea went down to 10 men in the first half after the visiting Blues' goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and United midfielder Casemiro were both sent off.
Before his dismissal, Casemiro had scored what proved to be the decisive goal.
"Every win, especially in this moment, is important against a great opponent," Amorim told the BBC.
"Our crowd, our fans are easy to please. If you give everything they will be there. That is something our players need to understand. To have the crowd with us we just need to run, to fight and tackle."
In the lunchtime kick-off, Ryan Gravenberch scored and assisted to help Liverpool to a fifth-straight win to start the defence of their crown.
The Reds also won five consecutive home games against the Blues for the first time since 1937, and Everton boss David Moyes is now winless in 23 games at Anfield with the Toffees, Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham United.
Gravenberch put Liverpool ahead in the 10th minute and made a perfect through-pass in the 29th minute to Hugo Ekitike, who slotted home.
Idrissa Gueye, 35, scored with a long-range shot to become the second oldest Everton player to score in a Merseyside derby.
After two straight defeats and having been knocked out of the League Cup by second-tier Swansea City in midweek, Postecoglou needed a positive result and the Australian at least came away with a draw at Burnley, though Jaidon Anthony spoiled his day by cancelling out Neco Williams' powerful strike for Forest.
In another bad day for Graham Potter, the West Ham coach's side lost for the fourth time in five games, going down at home to Crystal Palace 2-1.
Former Chelsea boss Potter has won just six times in 25 games since being hired in January and has lost 14 of them.
He lasted only seven months at Stamford Bridge and there's already been speculation about potential replacements, including former Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo and Hammers icon Slaven Bilic.
Tyrick Mitchell scored a 68th-minute winner for Palace after Jean-Philippe Mateta's opening goal was cancelled out by Jarrod Bowen.
West Ham are 18th with three points, but it's even worse for Wolves after they lost 3-1 at home to Leeds United.
Vitor Pereira's team are last, still looking for their first points after five games.
Elsewhere, Tottenham salvaged a 2-2 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham beat Brentford 3-1 at Craven Cottage.
