Dolphins chief comments on Cherry-Evans and Galvin interest
Dolphins CEO Terry Reader has confirmed that the club remains interested in star playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans and have subsequently ruled themselves out of the race for Lachlan Galvin.
Cherry-Evans informed the Manly Sea Eagles that he would not re-sign with the club and the Queensland Maroons captain was previously a Redcliffe junior.
Wests Tigers five-eighth Galvin and his management have recently expressed their desire to test the open market on November 1 and have cited a need for greater development than the Tigers can offer.
Reader said it would be irresponsible to not talk to a high calibre player like Cherry-Evans but distanced himself and the club from Galvin.
“Cherry-Evans needs to decide what he’s doing first,” Reader told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“Where does he want to go and who does he want to talk to? Nothing has changed.
“I know the soap opera of rugby league is the game that keeps on giving but nothing has changed.
“Anything else is pure speculation. If he wanted to move back to Brisbane, we’d talk to him because who wouldn’t?
“In all honesty, (the Galvin situation) has nothing to do with the Dolphins.
“It’s not something we are keeping an eye on or monitoring.
“We wish Galvin and the Tigers all the best of luck but it’s got nothing to do with the Dolphins or where we sit at the moment.”
After an 0-4 start under rookie coach Kristian Woolf, the Dolphins have rebounded in sensational fashion with three straight wins over the Gold Coast Titans, Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm.
The Dolphins are 3-0 in April and Reader said it’s a credit to the players and new coach Woolf for their resilience and character.
“Kristian has been terrific,” Reader added.
“He was the Super League St Helens coach and led them to three straight Premierships.
“He has handled everything in his stride and he’s a calm and collected guy.
“The team has started to turn things now so there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about the Dolphins.”
The Dolphins will look to make it four wins in a row when they travel to Canberra to take on the Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
