40+ no barrier: Warner and Siddle sign on for BBL|16
Australian cricket veterans Peter Siddle and David Warner are going around again in 2026/27 after inking BBL|16 deals with the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder respectively.
Warner, 39, turns 40 ahead of next season, while Siddle turns 42 in November.
Their age didn’t slow them down in BBL|15, with both players making the official Team of the Tournament.
Warner, who was the BBL’s leading run-scorer with 434 runs this season, despite missing two games, says he still feels he has more to give to the team and the game.
“I’m really excited to commit to another season with Thunder,” Warner said.
“It was certainly a challenging year for us, we are a much better team than what we put on the field this season and were unable to put a consistent game together. But the support from our fans – turning up in numbers every game – it played a massive role in my decision to stay.
“I feel I've got plenty more to give to this team and to this game. I felt pretty comfortable with my performance and was proud to give the team a fighting chance. We’ve already begun reviewing the season and putting the right plans in place to ensure we deliver a much stronger campaign in BBL|16.”
