Former Power assistant’s big prediction on Butters
A lot of trade talk next season will centre around Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters.
The three-time Power best and fairest and two-time All-Australian is out of contract at the end of 2026 and it is widely expected that he will leave Alberton.
The 25-year-old Victorian grew up a Western Bulldogs nut and that’s where his former assistant coach, Chad Cornes, believes he’ll end up.
“I love ‘Buttsy’, he’s such a great guy,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.
“If I had to make a prediction I think he goes this time next year.
“I would be saying that he loves the Bulldogs, just a real hardcore Bulldogs supporter before he got drafted.
“I don’t want to make a big call too early.”

Chad’s brother Kane asked: “What does he think of Bevo (Luke Beveridge)?”
Chad laughed: “Hopefully more than you.”
Butters continues to be heavily linked with a shift away from Port, with the Bulldogs and Geelong right at the top of the list.
Another Power star, who Kane is a massive fan of, is Jason Horne-Francis.
Chad, who departed Port in August, agrees with his younger brother’s assessment of the former No.1 draft pick.
“He hasn’t quite put it together yet for a number of reasons, mainly injury,” he said of JHF.
“His best games are some of the best games that I’ve seen in my time at Port Adelaide.
“What himself and ‘Buttsy’ can do, sometimes we just sit back and laugh in the coaches’ box.
“I completely agree with your (Kane’s) take on ‘Horney’. I reckon this year could be one - if he stays injury-free - and that’s like a lot of Port’s list. If they have a good run with injury then they could make the eight.”
Cornes, the two-time All-Australian and 2004 premiership player, was this week confirmed as the latest addition to the SEN stable, joining SEN SA Breakfast alongside Mark Bickley and Jarrod Walsh.
