The Adelaide Crows are in the conversation when it comes to Essendon’s Zach Merrett.
Channel 7’s Caroline Wilson is reporting that the Crows have internally discussed the wantaway Bombers captain.
It is understood that Hawthorn has been the only club interested, however, the Crows, on the back of a straight sets finals exit, are now in the picture.
“I don’t believe that Hawthorn are the only club in this conversation,” Wilson said on The Agenda Setters.
“I’m in fact certain that the Adelaide Football Club have joined the conversation. They had a serious list management meeting on Thursday, they are not the club they thought they were three weeks ago when they entered the finals series.
“They need to bolster their midfield.”
Kane Cornes asked: “Is Zach open to that? Has he got his heart set on Hawthorn or is he open to just getting out of Essendon to a club he sees as a potential premiership winner?”
Wilson replied: “He wants to go to Hawthorn.
“Anyone who grew up with footy in the 1980s knows about the unadulterated hatred and rivalry between those two clubs, and how poisonous this has come for some people at Essendon.
“You wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Zach isn’t taking my calls at the moment. I don’t know what he thinks about Adelaide, but if I was Zach I would be looking at Adelaide.
“Adelaide is a good footy club, they need a midfielder, they spoke about him today (Tuesday) at an unofficial chat about where they’re going.
“They said to me that it would be wrong to say that we’re actively pursuing this but yes we are in the conversation.”
