Voss: The Sharks have totally failed

Have the Cronulla Sharks improved in 2025?
That’s the question SEN’s Andrew Voss is asking after the Sharks succumbed to a 20-6 loss at home against an understrength Bulldogs outfit.
Since coach Craig Fitzgibbon took over in 2022, Cronulla have featured in every finals campaign since but have only won one final and have consistently struggled to compete against the elite teams such as Melbourne and Penrith.
With the addition of star recruit Addin Fonua-Blake and a promise to take the next step as a team, Voss says the Sharks are still a mile off from contending for a Premiership.
“I put Cronulla in the gun for this week,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“It was the real test. Saturday night, Canterbury at home and I wanted to know if Cronulla are better than their previous seasons.
“If they’re not, they are not winning the competition. They’ve shown up against the Cowboys and Rabbitohs (in the past fortnight) for 40 minutes and ripped them apart.
“I came away from Saturday night with more questions than answers.
“Their spine between Will Kennedy, Braydon Trindall and Nicho Hynes couldn’t find a way through Canterbury. They just couldn’t.
“Hynes was quiet, Trindall was quiet and Kennedy was having nightmares about the Bulldogs’ kick chase. He was battered into submission.
“It was relentless from Canterbury defensively and Cronulla came up so far short of being in the top bracket of teams.
“They have so much work to do Cronulla. It’s a tough week for them and it leaves a big question mark.
“Cronulla failed. Are they any better than last year? Or the year before that? Or before that? No.
“They have time to get better but have we seen the best of Kennedy and Hynes? Can they deliver them to the promised land?
“That’s the question Cronulla fans have to ask.”
The Sharks have slumped to 2-2 and travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Canberra Raiders on Thursday night.
