Trbojevic no certainty to play for Manly on Sunday

Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has confirmed that star fullback Tom Trbojevic is still touch and go as to whether he will run out for Manly’s Round 3 clash against Canberra.
Trbojevic failed to finish the Sea Eagles’ Round 2 loss against the Warriors with hamstring tightness. The major concern for Manly is that Trbojevic has a troubling history with hamstrings.
The 28-year-old was named to start for Sunday’s game but Seibold told SEN that he is no certainty to play against the Raiders.
“We have named him and we are optimistic,” Seibold said on SEN 1170.
“Turbo (Trbojevic) will definitely have to complete a fitness test towards the end of the week.
“We’ll be cautious with him. Nothing showed up on the scan so it’s just general tightness.
“There’s a history there so we have to make sure we get him right before we put him back on the field.
“He’s done all of our running style drills so if he doesn’t play this week, he’ll play the following week.
“If he doesn’t play, it’s because we are getting rid of that hamstring tightness.
“We are optimistic (he’ll play this week) but we are still 50/50 with Turbo.”
Manly also had a scare in their loss to the Warriors with captain Daly Cherry-Evans coming off with back spasms.
The 36-year-old remains one of the best players and halfbacks in the competition but the Queensland skipper is in the final year of his contract.
“(We are happy) if he wants to play on,” Seibold added.
“He hasn’t made a decision on what he wants to do so until then, everyone needs to take a breath.
“He’s been playing in the top grade since 2011 and we have had private discussions that I won’t talk about publicly.
“As long as I’m coaching, I would love to have him and he’s an integral part of our group.
“He’s only got better and his performances over the last few years have been outstanding.”
Cherry-Evans has been named to start for Sunday’s game against the Raiders at 4 Pines Park.
