Thursday best bets from Luke & Pfitzner (05/06)
Miles Pfitzner & Cam Luke have your Thursday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a close look at Geelong, Taree, Wagga & Bunbury in a bid to find the family some winners.
See their best bets below:👇
Miles Pfitzner
GEELONG
Race 4 | 11. Zakouma
Change of stable here a good key. Was competitive at listed 3yo level and then went to Adelaide and failed miserablely. Long lay off, jump outs suggest this horse is back. Draws wide but has enough gate speed to get across and be OSL or even lead.
WAGGA
Race 4 | 7. Deflector
A stand out favourite and drawn to control the race. Flies gates and should lead. This horse finds its race today after missing last couple.
Race 6 | 2. All Astern
Rate how this horse is going about it and great use of the claim last start should help here again. Vainstream the clear danger but it has to improve of the last time these two met. Drawn soft. Great price.
BUNBURY
Race 2 | 1. Won For The Girls
Finds it's race today. From what I saw, 1200m suits off last start and struggling to find a threat. Draws two, Willie Pike peach midfield with cover: peel out and pump them. Short but can’t do much about that.

Cam Luke
GEELONG
Race 3 | 5. Mockridge (each-way)
This is a very open race but I liked his run last start in what is a nice form race. Loomed up at first 1400m crack and think will be fitter for it today staying at the distance. Speed is drawn wide (Two Cubed) so can squeeze forward if Koby Jennings wants and sit prominent if no major speed underneath him although I expect Cuban Dawn to hold the fence. Waco Kid was good at Sale and deserves fave as assuming will improve second up as well but Mockridge is over the odds and will be in it for a long way.
Race 7 | 2. Purveyor
Fairly decent crack resuming when having to make a long run and will be better for it up in trip. Second up form is solid and last prep his only poor run was its third when had enough and eased out at Moonee Valley. Jamie Mott could ride Taggs to win a race currently and I do expect this horse to be very very hard to beat! Sephia the only other in the quaddie and she has talent. Out of her class in town last start and this is easier but also takes on the older horses and up to 1700m might test her a little so although I’ve included her just in case, I’m very confident Purveyor will win the race.
TAREE
Race 3 | 1. Dark Stratum
This is the easiest race he has been in and has class on these. Little tricky gate so needs a smidge of luck but in the Heavy I assume they’ll be coming off fence anyway. Ignore only Heavy form as he was OK on it just beaten by much better horses in town!! 1600m is his spot and I think finds his race here!
Race 4 | 7. Otium
Only concern is the gate if they are coming off fence but hoping can push forward and ease off fence in the run. Back to 1600m after a freshen and easier race are both positives. 1.5kg claim adds to the confidence. Always runs well here and as long as a little luck I think will be too good for them!!
WAGGA
Race 4 | 7. Deflector
No other major pace setter so should be able to control from that gate. Probably should have won last start so needs to savage the line rather than be a tad wayward in straight but up against the rails will help! Gets to 1400m third up which works. No millionaire off $2.50 but is the one they have to get past.
Race 6 | 7. Deflector
Will need to jump cleanly from that gate with any number of horses with early gate speed. If she does and gets into rhythm she will improve form that nice first up run where form has held up! She did the exact same thing 1st prep, staying at the 1000m second up and she was good that day and I expect more of the same today.
Race 7 | 10. Smart Poppy (each-way)
Was decent last start when no major luck and even thigh this is a tad tougher he will run well. Loves the 1400m, soft track and is really well weighted. Will get out the back from that gate but there is speed (Mosgold/Ferrari Man) meaning he will get a chance late. Over the odds certainly at $10.
