The Ozzie Kheir horses to follow this spring
Leviathan owner Ozzie Kheir has identified two of his gallopers that punters can follow this spring.
Melbourne Cup-winning owner Kheir and his successful racing group, which includes SENTrack regular John O’Neill, have a number of top-liners including two-time Group 1 winner Jimmysstar and stablemate Gringotts.
But who is ready to strike in the second half of 2025?
Ahead of the upcoming spring, Giddy Up’s Gareth Hall asked Kheir: Who is the horse we don’t know much about that we should be following this spring?

“There’s one I like and you probably wouldn’t know too much about her because she’s a New Zealand horse,” he replied.
“We have a horse called Leica Lucy. I really have a big opinion of that filly.
“She had a really big campaign of eight starts in one prep. She ran really well (for fourth) against Treasurethe Moment (in the ATC Oaks) when posted wide.
“There’s some exciting times with her.”
Leica Lucy - a three-year-old filly out of Derryn - had seven starts in New Zealand for six wins before running fourth behind Treasurethe Moment (2400m) in the ATC Oaks at Randwick in April.
She is trained by Chris Waller and is in the market for a number of spring majors including the Caulfield Cup where she’s $21 and The Metropolitan where she’s a $26 chance with Sportsbet.
Another horse that Kheir has an opinion of is Sergeant Major.
The three-year-old Proisir gelding has two career wins from nine starts, including a last-start triumph over 1400m at Randwick on April 12 - the same day Leica Lucy ran in the Oaks.
“We’ve got one at Ciaron’s and I think and hope this is the next Jimmysstar or Gringotts, being those backward New Zealand horses that mature with age,” he added.
“That is a horse called Sergeant Major.
“He hasn’t shown as much as I would have liked so far, but I just think this year look out for him. He’s on the improve.
“They’re two I’d like to see go on this spring.”
Sergeant Major is trained by Ciaron Maher.
