Tasracing's Sunday best bets at Devonport (29/06)
Matt Reid • June 29th, 2025 12:00 pm

The final thoroughbred meeting for June is on the Devonport synthetic with an eight-race program.
The first of the day is scheduled for 11:55.
Best Bet
Race 7 – 2. Earendel
Earendel can continue his rapid progression through the grades with a win in Class 4 company on Sunday. He sat on a strong tempo four weeks ago and kicked hard to hold off the second horse that had a much softer run. That race was run in quick time, and the little gap between runs serves to offset the drop in distance from 1880m to 1650m. Weighted to win with 54.5kg, Earendel can be too strong late and further enhance his 2026 Devonport Cup credentials.
Best Value
Race 6 – 5. Alpine Blast
Alpine Blast gets to his favourite track and trip, having done enough in recent starts to have him firmly in the mix. Last start he was strong through the line over 1150m, just struggling to get clear racing room in the home straight. He gets in well with 57.5kg, given that some of those at the top of the weights will carry 60+kg. Nine times Alpine Blast has been in the quinella over the Devonport 1350m, and he can add to that here at an each-way price.
Best Roughie
Race 4 – 12. Tough Impact
Tough Impact has recently changed stables from Alana Fulton to John Keys, and I thought there was some merit in his first run for the new camp. A noted leader, Tough Impact did just that first-up, setting a strong pace before fading in the last 200m. He was only beaten four lengths there, and importantly, he was out of his grade as a class 1 horse running in a class 2 race. He’s back in grade, but will carry the same weight (54kg), and has a softer map. Likely to be a big price, and I certainly won’t be sending him around a loser.
