Silver Ferns have named Briony Akle as assistant coach for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, linking up with Dame Noeline Taurua.
Akle returns after two years as a specialist coach and brings a strong record from the NSW Swifts, where she’s led the side to two titles and three grand final appearances.
“It is always a huge honour to be involved with iconic sporting teams, and the Silver Ferns are one of those,” Akle said.
She’ll remain with the Swifts for now before joining the Ferns full-time after the Super Netball season ends on July 4.

Taurua says Akle’s experience will be a major asset in the lead-in to Glasgow.
“She has come through the pathway, from academy level through to the international stage, and has invested years into mastering her craft,” Taurua said.
“Along that journey, she’s experienced both the highs and the challenges that shape coaches and build resilience.
"With limited time leading into the Commonwealth Games, it's invaluable to have Briony who is clear in her coaching style and approach. She brings clarity, composure and proven performance at the highest level."
The Silver Ferns open their Commonwealth Games campaign against Scotland on July 25.
