Parker: Shut your mouth and stop playing the victim
Terrell May needs to shut his mouth and stop playing the victim, according to Corey Parker who has shared some tough love for the Wests Tigers prop.
The 26-year-old, who is in his third season of first grade, has made headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks after telling his friend he should “switch allegiance” because he was not selected for the NSW Blues Origin squad.
Widely criticised for going public on his non-selection on a live streaming gaming platform, May apologised for his actions only then to go public again with his disappointment.
At the weekend he was quoted as saying his surname prevented him from representative selection.
Whatever the reason, Parker is sick of the “poor me” act.
“NSW would be reluctant to change their team given they won the series,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast. “There’s an underlying tone that May needed to be picked for NSW, it was a loud noise.
“He didn’t fit the bill for game 1 for whatever reason.
“He had spoken on Twitch and joked about throwing the Blues jersey in the bin. I don’t think that played a part but this is his third year of playing first grade, he’s got 64 games and it’s his first year at starting.
“At no stage are you just handed an Origin jersey let alone one from a series winning team.
The best thing Terrell May can do is zip is mouth up and play good football. Let the football do the talking. The more he talks the worse it looks on him.
“On the weekend he was quoted as saying to his family it didn’t matter how well he played he was never going to get picked. This victim mentality that I’m seeing , that he has to work harder because of his last name, it’s all BS.”
While his form this season for the Tigers has impressed, May was overlooked for selection with Payne Haas, Mitch Barnett, Max King and Stefano Utoikamanu getting the nod.
While painful to miss out, there has been much speculation over his reputation and whether it would suit a representative camp.
“Origin is about character, what you’re prepared to give to the side,” Parker continued. “It’s not just stats, runs or tackles, it’s about what suits the team.
“The more he talks the less he is going to find himself in a Blues jersey.
“Terrell May is a rep player in the future. Sometimes if you’re the best in a team doesn’t mean you’re going to make a rep team.
“I don’t think he needs to ring Laurie Daley. Shut your mouth and play football. Do what you need to do and the rest takes care of itself.”
