Parker: Inside story on my feud with Ricky Stuart
Kane Cornes’ feud with North Melbourne brought back some unsettling memories for NRL great Corey Parker who has shared details on his explosive feud with Ricky Stuart.
Off the back of a scathing column Parker wrote for News Corp in 2024, the former Bronco revealed Stuart refused to speak to him and would not take part in a panel event alongside him.
In the column, Parker was less than complimentary about Canberra as a destination club for elite talent.
He added that “nothing excites me about their side” which he described as “modestly talented”.
“Whenever a player looks at joining a new team, they and their family obviously look at the place first; where would we like to live? Canberra? No, not real keen,” he wrote.
“Especially not if you’re not a chance of winning something, and the Raiders don’t look a genuine factor this season for mine.”
In the immediate aftermath of the column being published, it was widely reported that the Raiders would refuse to do any media with Parker.
Turns out, it went much further than that.
“I was working for Fox last year and I was in Canberra and it was a Saturday Afternoon,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast. “I had an opinion on the Raiders as you’re paid to do.
“Part of the panel on the Saturday was Ricky Stuart was coming on but it was intimated to me that Ricky was only coming on if I wasn’t on there.
“So I had to exclude myself so he could come on which I thought was pretty interesting given the fact it’s a job where you’re paid to have an opinion regardless of what people think of it.”
