What must happen for Fifita to reunite with Bennett at South Sydney
The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis has responded to rumours that David Fifita could leave the Gold Coast Titans and join his old coach Wayne Bennett at South Sydney in 2026.
It has been a tough year for Fifita, who has struggled to find form in 2025 amid an ankle injury.
That has spawned speculation about where he might land despite having re-negged on a deal with the Sydney Roosters to re-sign with Gold Coast last year.

Responding to a message submitted on the rumour file on SEN 1170’s Breakfast, Carayannis has noted that Bennett does want to bring the 25-year-old across to help the Redfern side.
However, he believes it would require the Titans offering to pay part of his $1 million contract to get any potential deal done.
“Wayne Bennett has come out and intimated that if David Fifita is available, then he would like to have a conversation with him,” Carayannis said.
“South’s salary cap is super tight. They don’t have the scope to accommodate David Fifita at full freight.
“So, whether or not the Titans would be willing to chip in, and what is David Fifita worth on the open market now?
“We know Wayne loves to take a chance on players. I don’t know whether he is the player they need at South Sydney.
“But if you’ve got Keaon (Koloamatangi) back to the middle and Fifita on an edge, it would make them stronger.
“But they need to get him at a super cut price.”
Fifita has already played his last game for the season back in Round 20 against the Wests Tigers with the aforementioned ankle injury, which he has had surgery on.
The Titans are now gearing up for their clash against the New Zealand Warriors at Cbus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
