Form analyst Nic Ashman has provided his best bets for this weekend on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
Ashman analysed the key races at Randwick and Moonee Valley to hopefully find a few winners.
See his best bets below:
RANDWICK
Race 6 | 14. Elle Hudson
“It’s double figures into single figures,” exclaimed Ashman.
“A couple of horses have come out and I think the map looks a bit better for this guy, who was looking like he was gonna get buried along the inside.
“He went out beyond 2000m for the first time last start, and he was probably just short of peak fitness.
“He sort of came around the turn and looked like he was gonna put them away, but he peaked on his run.
“He was on the seven-day backup on that occasion.
“Joe Pride’s not overly tough on his horses, so I think when his horses get out to these distances, they quite often need a go at the trip before they improve enough to win.
“So, I think around that sort of $9, $10 mark, he’s gotta be in the mix.”
Race 3 | 8. Karinska
“Chris Waller trains his three-year-old filly taking on the older horses,” revealed Ashman.
“She’s a really interesting runner. Not often Chris throws his three-year-old filly at this time of year in against the older horses.
“He ran her in the Magic Night, and one of the other two-year-old Stakes races before that, off the back of a brilliant trail (and) a debut win at Canterbury.
“Now, she’s first-up in the second preparation.
“To me, this looks like an attempt to get a boost of her domestic rating, to get into those three-year-old Stakes races in the next few weeks.
“So, I’d be keeping a close eye on her.”
Race 7 | 12. Theblade
“My best for the day, I think he’s a Stakes class horse,” admitted Ashman.
“Yes, he has only one trail, in what’s gonna be a bog track.
“His wet data’s pretty good.
“And I just think he’s Stakes class, and down on 54 kilos, Zac Lloyd in the saddle, he should just be too good for that field.”
Race 9 | 2. Adelaide River
“Theblade’s been gelded, and so has Adelaide River,” Ashman revealed.
“The statistics around horses that resume first-up as a gelding – it’s about plus six percent profit on turnover for the last five years.
“If you backed them all, you’d be in front.
“So, it’s a good stat to follow, and this guy has great numbers over in Europe.
“Since being in Australia, we haven’t seen the best of him.
“JMac (James McDonald) ducked up to Gosford, a provincial track in Sydney to ride him in a trail – he sticks with him on race day.
“I think that’s a good pointer.
“I think he’ll be winning or going close to it on Saturday, and he might be the kind of horse that could end up in a metropolitan in a few weeks time.”
MOONEE VALLEY
Race 7 | 3. Relentless Voyager
“It’s D-Day for him, and this is the kind of race where he could win,” said Ashman.
“He’s third-up, he’s having his third start in Australia, he’s had an apprentice jockey on board for his first two runs.
“Bodes pretty quiet out the back, best last 200m of the race in each run, I think with a good rolling tempo tomorrow, he can probably settle midfield.
“We’ll find out how good he is.
“This could be the kind of horse that Ciaron Maher picks off these types of races, and then he pops up in a major spring feature and he’s actually half a chance.”
