SEN celebrates success at 2025 AFMA Awards, as Kane Cornes claims top honours again

Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) is celebrating another successful showing at the 2025 Australian Football Media Association (AFMA) Awards, with multiple accolades recognising the networkâs talent and programming.
Leading the charge was Kane Cornes, who was once again crowned the leader of the pack, taking home both the prestigious Alf Brown Award and the Lou Richards Medal for the second consecutive year.
Presented to the deemed best overall media performer, the judging panel described the 2025 Alf Brown field as âmore competitive than everâ in 2025, with Cornesâ sustained quality across his work on both SEN and the Seven Network setting him apart. His bold, calculated and provocative commentary was praised for its sharp opinions, major news stories, revealing interviews and astute analysis.
Kaneâs work on Fireball with David King and Sportsday with Gerard Healy on SEN continues to set the agenda in footy media. His Lou Richards Medal win â an award presented to a former or current league footballer now working in the media - also recognised his personality, humour, and deep knowledge of the game - qualities that mirror the legacy of Lou Richards himself.
SEN talent was further recognised across multiple categories throughout the evening. Garry Lyon, co-host of Breakfast with Garry & Tim alongside Tim Watson, received a Commendable Mention in the Best Opinion/Analysis â Individual category. Both Whateley (with Gerard Whateley) and SEN Breakfast (including Fireball on Mondays and Fridays, and Breakfast with Garry & Tim from Tuesday to Thursday) also received a Commendable Mention in the Best Radio Program category, highlighting the strength and consistency of SENâs morning lineup.
Gerard Whateley also earned a Commendable Mention in the Best Radio Match Caller category, while he and Garry Lyon were acknowledged for their work co-hosting AFL360 on Fox Footy, which won Best TV Program.
Dwayne Russell, host of Dwayneâs World (heard weekdays from 12 to 3pm on SEN) and a key voice on SENâs AFL Nation coverage, was recognised for his commentary work on Fox Footy with a Commendable Mention in the Best TV Match Caller category.
Caroline Wilson, heard on SEN's Donât Shoot The Messenger podcast alongside Corrie Perkins, also received Commendable Mentions for Best Opinion/Analysis (for her work with The Age) and Best News or Feature Reporting by an Individual for her contributions to The Agenda Setters, filmed in SENâs Southbank studio and produced by SENâs television arm, Rainmaker, for the Seven Network.
