Bombshell report Manly CEO has stepped down
Chief executive of the Manly Sea Eagles Tony Mestrov is reportedly set to quit his role.
According to News Corp, the club will confirm the decision later this week that both parties have mutually agreed to part ways.
The news comes at the end of what has been a tumultuous season for Manly which began with the bombshell announcement on live television that captain Daly Cherry-Evans would not be accepting a new contract.
Then came reports of inner turmoil and an attempted coup by former players to have coach Anthony Seibold ousted.
Anthony Watmough led the charge for a change in coach with backing from George Mimis. They wanted Matt Ballin to replace Seibold at season’s end however it seems the board are set to back their current man.
News of Mestrov stepping down comes just days after he was front and centre of the club announcing an extension to fullback Tom Trbojevic’s deal.
“Tom is so well respected by his teammates and fans alike, so it’s wonderful he’s extended his stay here at Manly,” Mestrov said.
“Tom is a natural leader who oozes Manly DNA and one of the best players our game has seen.
“We are all thrilled Turbo will be here for at least another couple of years and I’m excited about what’s ahead for Tom and the team.”
