Kingman found some form, paid the late entry fee, travelled to Addington and took out the 122nd running of the New Zealand Trotting Cup over Aussie rival Leap To Fame.
This marks the third win in a row for an Aussie horse in the Cup, following back-to-back victories for Swayzee in 2023 & 24.
Trainer and driver Luke McCarthy took the hard way to victory but that didn't bother the 4YO. He sat three wide for the last 1400 metres of the race and this only reiterated how good his victory was
Now a Victoria Cup winner and a New Zealand Trotting Cup winner, Kingman has a range of racing options ahead of him.
The leading New Zealand horse was Merlin in third, driven by Zach Butcher and trained by Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan who also trained the fourth horse home in Better Knuckle Up.
Republican Party finished 6th after leading the race early on.
