Hurricanes absolutely demolished by Renegades on another short night in Geelong

The Melbourne Renegades blew the Hobart Hurricanes off the park at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday night.
It was another short night for fans in Geelong with the ‘Gades wrapping things up after just nine overs of their batting innings having dismissed the visiting Hurricanes for only 74.
Last season’s match at the venue between the Renegades and Perth Scorchers was abandoned inside seven overs because of an unsafe pitch, leaving those down the highway short-changed again.
‘Canes captain Nathan Ellis put on 35 batting at eight but apart from that it was slim pickings with only Shai Hope (13) and Mitch Owen (10) reaching double figures.
Tom Rogers was the chief destroyer for the Renegades, taking the prized wickets of Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and Owen in his haul of 3/25 to pick up Man of the Match honours.
Fergus O’Neill was damaging with 3/16 while captain Will Sutherland also bowled superbly for his 3/14.
The paltry 74 was the lowest score by the Hurricanes in franchise history.
The chase did not take long with the Renegades running down the inept target four wickets down after nine overs.
Tim Seifert, who also took a remarkable catch with the gloves, made an unbeaten 37 from 19 balls with four fours and two sixes while Josh Brown hit 13 and Mackenzie Harvey added 10 not out as Nathan Ellis picked up 2/12 for Hobart.
The 1-1 Renegades will look ahead to their Marvel Stadium clash with the Scorchers on Monday, but the Hurricanes have to turn it around and play at Bellerive Oval on Saturday, also against Perth.
