Joe Root never thought he might be a cricketer - he just assumed he would be, as he revealed in a special in-depth interview with Sport Nation's Millsy & Guy during England's white-ball tour of New Zealand.
“I didn't grow until I was 18, but I think the greatest asset I had was I was so naive that I always just wanted to be a professional cricketer.
“So the fact that I wanted to do it, I just always felt that was what's going to happen.”
That blind confidence became his greatest weapon.
From a small, scrappy teenager to one of the Fab Four with Kohli, Smith, and Williamson, Root’s story is all about belief, grind, and quiet fire.

Now 34, he’s still chasing the game like a kid with a bat in his backyard.
“It's a hell of a series we've got coming up” Root said on the upcoming Ashes series.
“It's something that you always dream about being involved in, so even now when you're 34 and towards the back end of your career, to still be as excited as I am is a really nice feeling and something that I'm really looking forward to for sure.”
