"Sky’s the limit": Maher's colt primed for Magic Millions victory

Unit Five made his debut in the Magic Millions Vic 2YO Classic (1100m), dominating his two-year-old opposition, winning by 2.5 lengths.
The Ciaron Maher-trained colt also starred in his two trials as well, winning across 800m and 650m.
Tom Stockdale was the jockey trusted with the ride on the son of Supido on Saturday and the pair did not disappoint.
Speaking on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up, the hoop believes Maher’s juvenile is a seriously impressive colt who could potentially achieve greatness.
“Yeah, I think (he’s got plenty of potential), the sky’s the limit for him,” Stockdale exclaimed.
“I’ve sat on a fair few nice two-year-olds over the last couple of years and he rates right up there with the best of them.
“He’s still got untapped ability that we haven’t really seen yet. I never got to the bottom of him at Caulfield – he was doing it pretty comfortable.
“If he had another horse to challenge him, he would knuckle down and find another gear, which is great going forward for a ride like the Millions (1200m).
“I’ve been aboard a fair few (of Ciaron Maher’s two-year-olds), but this bloke is probably one of the main ones that stick out.
“Ciaron’s definitely got some fire power going into the autumn.”
While the jockey rode Unit Five in his debut start on Saturday, Stockdale admitted that he is unsure whether he will ride the talented colt in the $3 million race.
“That’s something that I would have to speak to Ciaron and the owners about,” Stockdale admitted.
“But jeez, I’d love to go up there and stick with him, he’s a very nice colt.”
Unit Five is currently $8 with Sportsbet to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 17.
