“He’s not a creator”: Parker speaks on Smith’s future at the Roosters
SENQ's Corey Parker has given his opinion on what the Sydney Roosters should do with Brandon Smith as his contract comes to an end this season.
This came after rumours have emerged about Smith potentially moving to England and playing in the Super League with the Roosters giving him permission to look around at his options.
However, Parker believes that the best opportunity for Smith to get back to his best is to stay in the NRL.
“He has an option to go overseas and resurrect his career; I don’t think that is the right thing to do.” Parker said on SENQ’s Breakfast.
“I think Brandon Smith will stay in the NRL but he’s got a few clubs that are after him.”
“So, it’s sort of watch this space. We talked about the Roosters in depth at different stages for the last few weeks and their spine is already been depleted, so if they lose Brandon Smith, they need somebody for that void.”
“If he is to depart and he’s able to do it sooner rather than later then they will be able to put some steps in place to work out who’ll play in that role.”

Smith signed with the Roosters back in 2021 from the Melbourne Storm on a three-year deal starting in 2023 being signed with the intention that he would play as a hooker for the Tricolours.
But he has not had the impact he or the club has desired playing in the forward pack with Parker believing that the number nine jersey is not where he is best suited.
“I think personally, he could play in the back row as in lock.” Parker remarked.
“His best assets is just ripping and tearing,”
“He is not a creator, so if you are looking for a creator, I don’t think he is the man.”
While Smith is expected to return from his MCL and ACL injury during the halfway point of the season, Parker believes that it is in the best interest for all parties to have his future resolved as quickly as possible to ensure that everyone is on the same page and can plan accordingly.
“It would be good for Brandon Smith and for everyone involved if they can have some clarity on what all of that looks like moving forward.”
The Roosters will begin their season against the Brisbane Broncos next Thursday at Allianz Stadium at 8pm AEDT.
