SEN’s Dwayne Russell has named the five teams under the most pressure heading into Round 1.
Russell’s pressure meter ranks teams from 1-5, with number one having the most pressure on them and the most to lose heading into the round.
Check out Russell’s pressure meter below.
1 - Collingwoodvs Port Adelaide - MCG – Saturday night
“Collingwood is number one,” Russell said.
“Home game against Port after being outplayed and outclassed last week.
“Collingwood can put the ‘too old’ stuff to bed this weekend with one good MCG performance.
“Nick Daicos can end the debate about how he handles the tag. Darcy Moore can end the speculation that he gets exploited too much these days. The Collingwood forward line, including Lachie Schultz, can get their chemistry right and kick a winning score.
“But if Port exposed the same flaws that the Giants exposed, then it will confirm that Collingwood's Opening Round performance and that it might actually be a real problem.”
2 - Sydneyvs Brisbane - SCG – Saturday
“They've already lost a home game to Hawthorn to start 0 -1 under a new coach who rolled out a new forward line that didn't work.
“This is all off the back of getting smashed in last year's Grand Final.
“Now they host the team that beat them in last year's Grand Final, the Lions, on Saturday.
“The reigning premiers are coming to town. The Swans don't want to start 0-2, losing two home games in a row, and then head to Perth to face Fremantle next week.”
3 – Western Bulldogsvs North Melbourne - Marvel Stadium – Saturday night
“I’ve got the Dogs at three.
“It won't take much for the heat to start intensifying around Bevo and the whole club.
“In a way, I think it's unfair that the footy circus needs to camp somewhere every week, and it seems like the Dogs and Bevo cop more than others sometimes.
“They are a little vulnerable Saturday night against the North Melbourne, who finished 17th last year … the heat will start early if they lose.”
4 - Adelaidevs St Kilda – Adelaide Oval – Sunday
“I’ve got Adelaide at 4, it’s home game against the Saints at the Adelaide Oval.
“It's actually time for Adelaide to make the 8. It's time for Adelaide to win these exact games on a consistent basis.
“So, you don't want to start a season with a home loss against a team you’re going to have to be better than to make finals.”
5 - Melbournevs GWS - MCG – Sunday
“I've got Melbourne as 5.
“No need to go into the details, you know the details for Melbourne. But they tell us they’ve had a summer of healing.
“The Demons do face the hottest team in the comp, outside of Hawthorn … but this is a big game for Melbourne.”
