As a few rain drops began to fall in what has been a wet spring of cricket to date, Daryl Mitchell didn't want to wait around any longer and buried England with a six and a four to successfully chase down their target of 224 to lead the Blackcaps to a four wicket win at Bay Oval.
With Will Young bowled by Brydon Carse in the second over of the run chase, the Tauranga crowd enjoyed seeing the return of hometown hero Kane Williamson, but that didn't last long as Carse served him a golden duck, the first of his 175-match ODI career.
Rachin Ravindra soon followed suit, this time at the hands of Luke Wood for his first List A wicket since 2019. He had looked to have got him earlier in the piece but finishes the job with the catch of Jamie Overton, leaving the Blackcaps scrambling at 24/3.

After weathering the initial storm from the English bowling attack, Latham and Daryl Mitchell's partnership ended at 42 runs, with the Blackcaps sitting at 66/4.
Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell provided resistance of a potential collapse by holding steady for the 5th wicket partnership, both earning a second life from dropped chances in the field to see them reach half-centuries together before Bracewell was run out with a direct hit by Jamie Overton to be 158/5 in the 27th over.
After Bracewell's wicket fell, captain Mitch Santner came to the crease and played it safe, before getting a sniff for the boundary, which ultimately caused him to come unstuck, departing with 27 after hitting two of the three previous balls for six.
With the chase sitting at 207 with 15 overs remaining, Nathan Smith made his way out into the middle and found the boundary before Daryl Mitchell put the game to bed in the 37th over.
Blackcaps to chase 223 after Brook's inspiring captain's knock
After a shaky start for the England batting order at Bay Oval, captain Harry Brook has inspired his team back into the first ODI game with his second century in the 50-over format - setting the Blackcaps 224 to chase for victory.
Brooks' career high ODI score of 135 from 101 balls, slowed down the Blackcaps bowling attack, who started the day brilliantly.
The first ball of the day was a Matt Henry stumping of Jamie Smith before following up with his second wicket eight overs later, sending Jos Buttler to the changing rooms.

Zak Foulkes followed in his teammate's footsteps with the quick dispatching's of Ben Duckett and Joe Root before claiming his third and fourth before the end of the 12th.
After the quick nature in which the first six wickets fell, it took the Blackcaps bowlers 14 overs, and nearly 100 runs to claim their seventh wicket, but the eighth was nowhere near as long, Duffy dispatching Brydon Carse one ball later.
When the ninth wicket fell in the 30th over it felt like the end was near with a run tally of 166, however, as he did all inning, Brook muscled England to 223 runs before he was caught by Nathan Smith.
