Stars continue to slide after Sixers defeat them easily at the MCG
The Sydney Sixers have extended the Melbourne Stars’ losing streak to three after defeating them comfortably by six wickets at the MCG on Thursday night.
With their season starting to slowly slip away despite the hot start of winning their first four games, the Stars had put themselves under all sorts of pressure early with their batting innings - only accumulating 128 runs.
Marcus Stoinis (33) and Blake Macdonald (33) were the Stars’ best batters for the evening, with the pair putting together a solid partnership of 44 runs to help get their total score to where it got to.
Sydney’s Ben Dwarshuis (4/13), Joel Davies (2/15) and Jack Edwards (3/27) starred with the ball in hand, helping ensure that they can set the Sixers up with a run chase that should be easy to chase down.
And yet despite Peter Siddle’s (1/12) and Marcus Stoinis’ (2/20) best efforts, the Stars were no match for the Sixers’ batting line-up, which cruised to victory inside 18 overs.
Josh Phillipe (35) and Lachlan Shaw (24*) did most of the damage in the run chase, as they finished off as the highest run scorers for the visitors.
Next up for Sixers, they will be back at home on Sunday when they take on the reigning champions the Hurricanes in what looms to be a blockbuster of a clash.
Whilst for the Stars, they’ll look to snap their losing streak when they take on their cross town rivals the Renegades on Saturday at Marvel Stadium.
