‘Cane Train back on track with demolition job of Renegades

The Hobart Hurricanes sent a warning to the rest of the BBL by demolishing the Melbourne Renegades at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong on Sunday night.
The reigning BBL champs bounced back strongly from last Thursday’s loss to the Melbourne Stars by thumping the Renegades by seven wickets with 37 balls remaining, comprehensively getting the Cane Train back on track.
Chris Jordan was Player of then Match with a destructive spell of 4/19 including the invaluable scalp of recent century-maker Tim Seifert.
Jordan’s best BBL figures helped the ‘Canes restrict the ‘Gades to 9/145 - a very gettable total at GMHBA.
Seifert did top score with 34 (off 21) while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 32 (off 26), but there was little else for the Renegades to cheer about.
In response the Hurricanes made light work of the chase, reaching 4/149 in the 14th over despite losing Mitch Owen first ball and fellow opener Tim Ward for eight.
Nikhil Chaudhary was thunderous in making 79 off 38 deliveries with seven fours and four sixes, while Ben McDermott chipped in with an unbeaten 49 (off 33) which included four sixes.
The ‘Canes, who sit atop the BBL table with a 2-1 record, next meet the Scorchers in Perth on Boxing Day.
The ‘Gades will lick their wounds before waiting until December 29 to get their campaign back on track with a return bout against the Hurricanes in Hobart.
