“Will it unravel?”: The coaches under the most pressure in 2025
Kane Cornes believes the 2025 AFL season will be underlined by coaches under pressure.
Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley is already set to hand the reins over to Josh Carr at the end of the season, Luke Beveridge is out of contract, and the likes of Adelaide, Carlton and Fremantle enter the season under enormous pressure to perform.
“I think the biggest stories in footy this year will be in relation to coaches. Right or wrong, the biggest story each season is a coach under pressure,” Cornes told SEN Breakfast.
“I think this year there is a number of storylines in relation to the coaches.
“From (Luke) Beveridge and the difficulty of their fixture at the start of the season and the lack of availability of some of their stars. How will Luke handle that? Will the club rally around him?
Matthew Nicks is one. I think the expectation for Adelaide is to win a final now. They can’t be in year six of a situation where they’re not rebuilding and not have any success.
“Will it unravel at Port Adelaide? What if they get off to a bad start? Will the club hold firm or will they make a call?
Justin Longmuir at Freo and Michael Voss at Carlton is probably in the same category as well, despite the lack of availability he’s had at times. I think the Blues fans are ready.”
