Victor Radley has broken his silence after receiving a mammoth ban from the Sydney Roosters after he was implicated in drug charges against Brandon Smith.
Radley was issued historic sanctions for bringing the club into disrepute over his alleged involvement with the court case against former teammate Brandon Smith.
Radley will be banned for 10 matches without pay as a result of his alleged connection with the case as well as a $30,000 fine.
Smith was charged by Queensland police with one count of supplying dangerous drugs and one count of using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting.
Radley has not been charged and there is no evidence to suggest he obtained or took illicit drugs.
Radley acknowledged he had hurt the people closest to him, including his family and the Sydney Roosters.
“I’m embarrassed and never want to be in this position again,” Radley told The Daily Telegraph.
“I made the people I love feel like shit.
“I have to stand up, be a man and move forward."
"The club and my family were the two I had to worry about. I didn’t want the people I love to feel the way I felt. I want to make sure the people I love are all right and I made them feel like shit. That hurt the most. That was disappointing.
"The hardest thing is how this has (affected) my family. I don’t mind copping a bit of hurt myself, but my family is the difficult one.
"My fiancée is getting bombarded, but she has been the rock for me. As hard as it is for her, she hasn’t shown it too much.
"She is 32 weeks pregnant but has still stood there and made me feel safe and that everything is going to be okay.
"She hasn’t made me worry about it too much. I am very grateful for her."
When the Roosters announced the ban, Radley released a statement at the time.
"I want to sincerely apologise to the Club, my teammates, our sponsors, Members and fans for the negative spotlight I have brought on the Roosters," he said.
"I accept the sanctions in full and will work hard to earn back the trust and respect of everyone who supports this great Club."
