Trade talk: Four clubs that should take a risk on Ugle-Hagan
Three Melbourne-based clubs and Sydney should be in the hunt to secure Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s signature, according to David King and Kane Cornes as speculation over the troubled star's future continues.
The former No.1 draft pick has not played for the Bulldogs this season as he continues to wrestle with personal issues.
While he spent the start of the season sporadically training with his club, it was his activity on social media and the party scene which sparked speculation over whether his career may be coming to a premature end.
Amid mounting pressure and intense media coverage on his behaviour, Ugle-Hagan took an indefinite leave of absence from the club earlier this month and just last week checked himself into a wellness retreat.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 23-year-old, but should he want to revive his footy career, a number of clubs should be chasing him, according to the SEN Fireball hosts.
“If you were Melbourne do you take the risk on Jamarra?” King asked Cornes.
“Melbourne will say they don’t want to do it but I think they absolutely have to take the risk on fixing this forward 50.
“Rank your top three; I would say Sydney have to go hard and Melbourne have to go hard.”
Cornes saw it a little differently.
St Kilda, Collingwood and Sydney,” he said were the three clubs that should be chasing Ugle-Hagan.
“The Saints should be the club going the hardest for Jamarra if you are confident that he can…(turn things around).”
Quizzed on why he would put Collingwood forward as a destination, Cornes explained: “How long is (Tim) Membrey going to be around?
“(Dan) McStay’s body is a concern and (Brody) Mihocek is closing in on 30.
“Collingwood could get him for not a whole lot and could pencil him in for a while. Imagine him (Jamarra) playing at the 'G for the Pies.”
While speculation over Ugle-Hagan’s future continues, the Bulldogs remain adamant there is a place for Jamarra at the club.
There is no timeline or date for his return as things stand.
