Trade talk: Collingwood "aware" of veteran's appeal to shift north
Collingwood veteran and 2025 All-Australian candidate Jamie Elliot could be in the midst of his last season as a Magpie.
The 32-year-old is undoubtedly playing out his best career year, kicking 48 goals in 20 games for Collingwood to see the veteran in seventh place in the Coleman Medal race, clearly topping the charts as the most clinical small forward in the AFL.
Having played 214 games with the Pies since his debut in 2012, Elliot is set to hit the unrestricted free agency market at the end of 2025, and his elite form across the year has rightly earned significant interest from opposing clubs.
As reported by Sam Edmund, the clutch Magpie could potentially be on the move ahead of the 2026 AFL season, and despite a lucrative two-year deal on the table from the Pies, Elliot is reportedly weighing up a shift up north to close out his career.

“I just wanted to discuss Jamie Elliot,” Edmund told SEN Sportsday.
“He is weighing up a two-year contract from Collingwood, but just a watch on Gold Coast looming here if negotiations break down.
“There is a chance Elliot’s career-best season could be his last at Collingwood. The Suns are holding some appeal for the forward, he is out of contract – he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, so he could move north.
“He had a good look at Brisbane (last year), he toured the Gabba, he was caught there touring the facilities. His family is still there, he has got property up there, he spent a lot of his childhood in Queensland, so there is no doubt that they hold some appeal for him. Collingwood are aware of this; the Suns are also aware of it.
“I think he has got a school of thought that the warmer weather might extend his career as well. I’m not sure what the Gold Coast offer would be, because it hasn’t got to that.
“But the Suns are monitoring it, Collingwood are aware of it. It’s a two-year deal, that takes him until he is 35.
“This one would be interesting, because he considered a move to Brisbane, he did sign a three-year deal at Collingwood at that time in 2022. He is a member of the seven-man leadership group, he has been in the form of his life this year, and Collingwood are just wrestling.
“They are in a curious situation – you’ve got a 32-year-old in career best form, ‘how do we value him?’ It’s said to be a very good two-year offer, certainly financially solid.”
Following a tough defeat to the Brisbane Lions, Elliot and the Magpies are set to take on the Hawks in a bid to regain their place atop the AFL ladder.
