Greene to Vic? Cornes drops free agency bombshell
Could Toby Greene walk away from the Giants and court a Victoria homecoming before calling time on his career?
With the GWS captain out of contract and set for unrestricted free agency status at the end of this season, Kane Cornes says the 32-year-old will be one of the biggest names to watch through 2026.
"Toby Greene is out of contract this year and at 32 years of age will be an unrestricted free agent," Cornes said on SEN's Friday Fireball.
"Greene at Hawthorn. Look at it for him; given everything he has done as a servant of the Giants, they're probably on the downward path having had a decent run of success.
"Does Toby want to come home to Melbourne and play for a Victorian club that is smack bang in the window to get himself a premiership?
"He can go to any club for nothing so enticement is there for other clubs.
"This is one to watch, he is not contracted, the longer this goes on and he remains unsigned."
Tom Morris echoed Cornes' sentiments.
"It’s pretty attractive isn’t it," Morris said. "Two year years ago I would have said ‘Kane he is captain of the club’ but last year we saw Simpkin try to get out, Merrett try to get out and they were all contracted.
"In his perfect world he would win a flag with the Giants, but if he feels he could win a flag elsewhere who knows he could get a two year deal."
