The clubs chasing in-demand GWS defender
AFL Media’s Cal Twomey believes that GWS defender Leek Aleer is a genuine chance of leaving the Giants at the end of the season.
The key defender made a name for himself last year with a game saving mark against Geelong in Round 11, but has only featured at AFL level a further five times.
Although the Giants are keen for him to stay, it is expected that plenty of clubs will come hard for the 23-year old’s services during October’s trade period.
“Well, they've offered him a two-year offer now, the Giants, so they're keen to keep him.” Twomey told SEN Breakfast.
“The reality is this guy's played 12 games in four or five years, hasn't played at AFL level this year but he's a wanted man out there and was wanted last year.
“He’s been strongly linked to St Kilda, but Brisbane as well is keeping tabs on him, and as are a number of other clubs
“It’s going to be very hard over the next couple of years for him to break into that, defensive unit at the Giants, given they've got Taylor, Buckley, Himmelberg and Idun.
“I think there's still every chance he takes a long time to work through what his call is, and I'd be surprised to see him at the Giants next year.”

The out-of-contract defender has played 12 AFL games since being drafted with pick No. 15 in the 2021 Draft.
He's averaging 16.7 disposals and 6.7 marks from three VFL appearances so far this season.
