Sydney Roosters lock in Tedesco until end of 2026

James Tedesco has taken a year-by-year approach on his future, inking a 12-month extension to stay at the Sydney Roosters.
The Roosters confirmed on Friday they had locked down their No.1, keeping him at the NRL club for 2026.
The 31-year-old's signature gives the Roosters some much-needed stability among their senior players, after the mass exodus of several older stars this summer.
The deal means he will stay at the club until at least just before his 34th birthday.
His signing also comes after the club locked in Sam Walker as their long-term halfback until 2027.
The Tri-colours are likely to go in search of a new hooker for 2026 with Brandon Smith off contract, while Sandon Smith faces a crucial start to 2025 in the halves.
But Tedesco will be there to lead the club through the transition period.
"The Roosters have been my home for the past seven years, and I'm excited to continue playing for this incredible club," Tedesco said.
"I'm proud to represent the Roosters and there's a strong bond among the group, so I'm looking forward to what we can achieve together in 2025 and beyond."
Tedesco is expected to remain at fullback for the entirety of the next two years, with coach Trent Robinson adamant last month there was no need to rush in future planning at No.1.
It came as the Roosters opted against any real pursuit of Melbourne star Ryan Papenhuyzen, who has also opted to stay with the Storm for 2026.
"James is not only a phenomenal player but also a leader who sets the standard for professionalism and performance," Robinson said in a statement on Friday.
"I'm really pleased that his experience will continue to benefit the team around him."
