Nicoll-Klokstad rejects international interest to stay with NZ Warriors

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad had appeared to be heading off-contract with overseas clubs showing their interest in the 29-year-old Kiwi international. Those talks will be silenced for now as the NZ Warriors confirm the fullback will remain with the Auckland-based club through until 2027.
“We’re thrilled Charnze has extended his time with us,” said Andrew McFadden, whom works as the NZ Warriors' General Manager of recruitment, pathways and development .
“He attracted interest from a lot of other clubs but has thankfully decided to stay here.
“He’s important to us on so many levels, not least what he brings on the field but also with his leadership, attitude, guidance and contribution off the field.”
Sport Nation spoke with Nicoll-Klokstad during the NRL's opening round festivities in Las Vegas and it was clear then how much calling New Zealand home means to the veteran of 118 NRL games.

Sidelined for the Warriors' Round 7 win over the Brisbane Broncos due to the NRL's concussion protocols, Nicoll-Klokstad watched as 25-year-old Taine Tuaupiki wore the No. 1 jersey. His 172 run metres across 23 carries, including 54 post-contact metres and a line break gave fans a reminder of what the position's future could look like.
But Nicoll-Klokstad remains the current custodian of the coveted starting fullback spot - his experience proving to be invaluable for Warriors head coach Andrew Webster.
“Keeping Charnze means so much to us," Webster said.
“He plays such a huge part at our club and we didn’t want him going anywhere else.
“The energy he brings every training session, every game and around the club is unbelievable. He’s all heart and soul and we love him.”
