Lock him in: Young gun Cooper Connolly to make Test debut in Galle
Cooper Connolly will make his Test debut on Thursday when Australia face Sri Lanka in Galle, according to SEN Cricket’s Tom Morris.
While it’s unknown exactly who the 21-year-old will replace in the XI out of Beau Webster and Todd Murphy, Morris posted on X that it's more likely that Murphy misses out as the youngster is locked in for his first red-ball international game after making his ODI and T20I debuts in 2024.
Connolly’s Test debut comes after just four First Class games where he’s scored 309 runs at an average of 61.84. The West Australian also provides a genuine left-arm orthodox option although he’s yet to take a First Class wicket.
The youngster most recently won the BBL|14 Player of the Tournament alongside Glenn Maxwell where he made 351 runs at 50.14, he also took wickets in six of the Scorchers’ nine matches.
