“It’s unfortunate and it’s a cruel game”: AFL great believes time is up for Eagles premiership hero
Fremantle great Paul Hasleby believes Dom Sheed’s time as an Eagle will come to an end at the completion of the 2025 season.
The 2018 premiership hero will miss the season with a torn ACL and has only played 24 games total since 2021 as he battled various injury and form issues.
Sheed is out of contract at the end of the year and despite being only 29, Hasleby believes the end if here for him as an Eagle.
“He’d been working his way back from a couple of tough years for the Eagles. He’s going to be 30 in April and played 165 games – speed, age, injury setbacks now again – could this be it for him and his career at West Coast?” Hasleby asked on SEN WA’s The Run Home.
“It’s unfortunate and it’s a cruel game, but I think his time is up at the West Coast Eagles and it is hard to see another club giving him a chance, particularly knowing he’s not going to play this year.
“He may come back, he may go to a VFL or a WAFL team and get into some good form because we know he accumulates the footy and there might be a need for him at another club, but I think at West Coast with where the group is at, the game style, they’re going in a direction that doesn’t suit him.
“I think unfortunately for Dom Sheed it’s been a good career, but at West Coast, it’s over.”
The Eagles will be hoping a fresh look under new coach Andrew McQualter can see them begin to climb the ladder in 2025.
