Inglis earns White Ferns call-up for upcoming ODI series in India
The White Ferns have called up Polly Inglis for a potential ODI debut in the upcoming series against India.
The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was awarded her first NZ Cricket central contract after impressing for the Otago Sparks on the domestic scene and will now join coach Ben Sawyer's 15-player squad in Ahmedabad.
"We’re really excited to introduce Polly for her first tour," said Sawyer.
"She put her hand up in last season’s Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and throughout the New Zealand A series against England, so it’s a great next step for her."
Auckland batter Lauren Down also joins the squad after returning from a maternity break in July.
Meanwhile, bowler Rosemary Mai will be rested as part of her recovery from a long-term back injury, having impressed in Dubai for the newly crowned T20 world champions.
Leih Kasperek is the only other player omitted from the Ferns squad which just completed an historic T20 Cup campaign.
Sawyer admitted the side is still riding high after their win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final, but is looking forward to refocusing for the unique demands of touring India, as they look ahead to next year's ODI World Cup.
"It's been an amazing 24 hours for this group becoming T20 World Cup champions," said Sawyer.
"We're relishing the win but when we get to India we'll need to refocus and set our sights on the next challenge."
The White Ferns begin their three-match tilt at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.
