“In trouble”: Why Cornes is expecting a lot of pain for Port Adelaide
Kane Cornes sees issues everywhere with Port Adelaide’s list.
The Power have been very Jekyll and Hyde in 2025, winning against the likes of Sydney and Hawthorn but going down by more than 90 points to both Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs in Victoria.
After their Round 8 defeat to the Dogs in Ballarat, Cornes thinks that the club's list could be in big trouble with the side underperforming despite having All-Australians Aliir Aliir, Ollie Wines, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Connor Rozee, Zak Butters and superstar Jason Horne-Francis available.
He pointed to the club’s recruitment of Ivan Soldo and trading away this year’s first-round pick in the Jack Lukosius deal as moves that could contribute to a fair amount of pain coming Port Adelaide’s way in years to come.

Cornes and David King discussed the Power on SEN's Fireball in the wake of the 90-pooint loss to the Dogs.
Cornes: “They've got issues everywhere, to be fair.
“Tim English was dominant and Jordon Sweet's a bit of a problem, he was also destroyed by Tristan Xerri last week.
“The recruitment of Ivan Soldo has been a disaster. To give up what they gave for big Ivan, and to not have him even play (hurts them).
“The list management decisions have been a little bit perplexing to me for a bit of time. They’re in trouble.
“Their list is in trouble, which you and I have spoken about for two years.”
King: “So, can you afford to have Rozee at halfback? They were smashed at clearance.”
Cornes: “Well, you have to, because if you put him back in there, what do you do with Wines, Willem Drew and Jackson Mead? If they're not in the midfield, they’re not in the team, because they can play nowhere else.”
King: “Have they got this list build wrong?”
Cornes: “I haven't rated their list for a while.”
King: “So, have they got it wrong?”
Cornes: “Yeah, I don't think that the list management has been great at all.
“They don't have their first draft pick, and I can't believe they thought, ‘Let's give away our future first-round pick’, with where they were at.
“We'll see what happens with Butters and we'll see what happens with the list and when the new coach takes over.”
King: “But if you're painting a picture…”
Cornes: “There’s a fair amount of pain coming. A lot of pain.”
The 4-4 Power next face the Crows in a huge Showdown at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
