Hawthorn fan favourite inks contract extension
Livewire small forward Nick Watson has signed a three-year deal with Hawthorn, taking his tenure at Waverley through to at least the end of 2029.
The 20-year-old has quickly made his mark at AFL level, kicking 55 goals from his 38 games and is a fan favourite of many Hawks supporters.
Pick 5 in the 2023 draft has built a reputation as a big-game player in last year’s finals series, kicking four goals against the Western Bulldogs in the Elimination Final and three against Port Adelaide in the Semi Final.
List manager Mark McKenzie welcomed the news and was excited to see what the future holds for Watson in brown and gold.
“While Nick’s elite talent is something that captivates us all, what impresses us the most is his continued development, adding further layers to his game,” McKenzie said.
“With his elite speed, pressure and footy smarts, Nick’s ability to create repeated scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself is real weapon for our side.
“At just 20 years of age, Nick’s ceiling is as high as any other player and we see him as a key piece of our future, continuing to bring smiles to the faces of the brown and gold faithful for years to come.”
Watson and the Hawks will be back in action to take on Melbourne at the MCG this Saturday.
He has kicked 30 goals and provided 11 goal assists in 20 games this year.
