SEN’s Dwayne Russell has called upon AFL CEO Andrew Dillon to strike a deal with one of the globe’s biggest musical acts ahead of this year’s Grand Final.
Two days ago, American rock band ‘Foo Fighters’ announced an Asian tour, commencing in Jakarta, Indonesia in early October of this year.
Foo Fighters, headlined by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, are a global sensation, releasing their first self-titled album in 1995 and continuing to sell out shows worldwide.
The band has accumulated 15 Grammy awards for their music, including a record-holding four Grammy awards for Best Rock Album, with their most infamous song ‘Everlong’ obtaining over a billion streams across multiple platforms.
With their freshly announced tour placing the band within a number of hours from Melbourne, just a number of days after the AFL Grand Final, Russell has begged the question as to whether Andrew Dillon should open the chequebook for the major international act.
“Foo Fighters, AFL Grand Final entertainment, yes, or no?” Russell SEN’s Dwayne’s World.
“It would be a big act to put on pre-game; it would be awesome.
“Andrew Dillon has a chance to land the Foo Fighters, who are playing in Indonesia on Thursday the 2nd of October, five days before ethe AFL Grand Final in Melbourne.
“From Indonesia, they head to Singapore to headline the entertainment at the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.
“Then they have got dates in Japan. So they are here in Asia, it’s a five- or six-hour flight from Melbourne to Jakarta so it’s a pretty easy one to come down here for our Grand Final and go, bang.
“Should Andrew Dillon write the cheque and get it done now?”
The Grand Final is no stranger to international acts, with American pop artist Katy Perry headlining the 2024 AFL Grand Final, while American band ‘KISS’ and British star Robbie Williams fronting the years prior.
